About the Book

This book presents an in-depth exploration of the winged bean (Psophocarpus tetragonolobus L.), a highly nutritious and underutilized legume with immense potential for sustainable agriculture, food security, and industrial use. The content spans the plant’s morphology, anatomy, and environmental requirements, alongside its rich nutritional profile, anti-nutritional factors, and phytochemical composition, highlighting its role in human health and diet diversification. Detailed chapters discuss the bean's nitrogen-fixing ability, biological activities, and livestock feed value, emphasizing its contributions to both soil fertility and animal nutrition. The book also explores value-added products, industrial applications, and genetic improvement strategies, offering insights into breeding, biotechnology, and future research directions. Further, it examines the integration of artificial intelligence for optimizing winged bean cultivation and yield sustainability. With national and international perspectives on research and development, this volume is a valuable resource for agronomists, nutritionists, researchers, students, and policy makers working toward agro-biodiversity conservation, climate-resilient farming, and sustainable food systems.
