About the Book

Textbook on Insect Pests of Vegetables in the Indian Subcontinent provides comprehensive knowledge of major insect pests affecting vegetable crops in the region. The book covers the identification, distribution, biology, life cycle, and nature of damage caused by important vegetable insect pests. It discusses effective pest management strategies to minimize crop losses and improve vegetable productivity. Special emphasis is given to Integrated Pest Management (IPM) and sustainable crop protection practices. The book offers region-specific information relevant to the diverse agro-climatic conditions of the Indian subcontinent. It serves as a valuable academic resource for students of agriculture, horticulture, and entomology. The content is useful for researchers, agricultural scientists, extension workers, and field-level professionals. It is particularly beneficial for aspirants preparing for competitive examinations such as UPSC, ICAR-ARS, JRF, SRF, SMS, and STO. It also supports preparation for Agriculture Officer examinations conducted by State Public Service Commissions, SSC, NABARD, IBPS, IFFCO, and NSC. The book combines foundational concepts with practical information to strengthen both theoretical understanding and field-level knowledge. It highlights the importance of pest monitoring, biological control, and environmentally responsible pest management. The information presented can help readers understand pest ecology and develop effective crop protection strategies. The book aims to contribute to improved vegetable production, reduced crop losses, and enhanced food security. It acknowledges the contributions of scientific literature, open-access resources, academic mentors, and institutional support, including Gopal Narayan Singh University, Jamuhar, Sasaram, Bihar. Overall, this textbook is a useful reference for academic learning, competitive examination preparation, agricultural research, and the promotion of sustainable vegetable cultivation.
