About the Book

This book is a compilation of research papers presented at the National Seminar on “Agricultural Marketing, Trade, Price Analysis and Rural Marketing in India”, held from 11th to 13th October 2006 at SASRD, Medziphema, Nagaland. The book focuses on the importance of agricultural marketing in the economic development of India. It highlights the challenges and opportunities in the agricultural marketing system, particularly in the North-Eastern hill region. It discusses the role of marketing institutions, infrastructure and technological development in improving agricultural marketing. The book examines the prospects and constraints of domestic and international agricultural trade. Special attention is given to the marketing and export potential of horticultural products of Nagaland and other North-Eastern states. It emphasizes the importance of developing efficient marketing networks for fruits, vegetables, medicinal plants, floriculture and organic products. The book highlights the role of agricultural research and development in increasing productivity and improving farmers' income. It discusses changing consumption patterns and the growing demand for high-value agricultural products. It also explores opportunities for value addition, food processing and the establishment of agro-based industries. The importance of agricultural export zones, trade liberalization and international market linkages is discussed. It emphasizes the need for better rural infrastructure, credit facilities and government support for agricultural development. The book covers three major themes: prospects and constraints of agricultural marketing, domestic and export marketing of horticultural products, and marketing of animal, organic and value-added agricultural products. It provides useful insights and recommendations for strengthening agricultural marketing systems and improving farmers' access to national and international markets. Overall, this book is a valuable academic resource for students, researchers, policymakers, agricultural economists and institutions working in the fields of agricultural marketing, trade, price analysis and rural development.
